As students of design, we acknowledge the value of creativity. But have you ever wondered how your mind makes those creative juices? โDoes being bored make us more creative?โ by Sandi Mann and Rebekah Cadman questions, tests and resolves, to the best of our knowledge in 2014 how boredom affects creativity. Have you ever found yourself daydreaming in the middle of something important, only to subconsciously divert your mind off the topic for a little while? Your brain, having exhausted itself of attempts, finds the original topic boring. It then decides to switch to anything any more interesting (this is daydreaming, btw). These tasks could be anything, decisions from what you would eat tonight to why is the sky blue. These serve as a refresher to the mind to get back to any task more creative and effectively as a result. A series of tests are performed to conclude that boring tasks like reading and writing accelerate original and numerous ideas for any task at hand. Conclusion: Take breaks when you feel at a standstill, your creative juices need a refill.
